Mud-daubers,
I too did a hunt for best lath pricing last year and ended up at a contractor's discount house about sixty miles away. I talked with each factory rep in my state (2 or 3), and found that the bulk amount that interested these guys was bigger than what I'll be doing for at least now. Two or three lifts (500 pcs to a lift) was interesting but not exciting to the seller's at this level. My small town supplier is charging double what sources sixty miles away are charging, and the contractor's outlet is about a dollar a sheet cheaper than than other outlets in that area, like Home Depot.
I wanted to chirp in here on this because I also found out that the same reps that were supplying reinforcing to the building supply outlets were also suppllyng steel material to the welding shops, ag houses, body shops etc., and I got a positive response from one of these guys on eventually doing business with the local steel works company for negotiating a price for delivery there. Definitely a negotiating chip for better pricing and closer delivery if you can prove your a constant user as opposed to a one time buy. -chris
