The Hawk Nest Home on five acres of beautiful oak and juniper forested land will be placed on the market soon.
The garage and 26 K insulated slab water tank are complete but the home is only half-done in its wire armature form but the electrical is done.
The project was stopped because the owner and visionary Cyndi Cargen passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of a stroke and the surviving family wishes to return back east to be closer to family.

I could not really discuss the happenings with the project for a time but now I can. The engineer for the project was interested in buying and we were working on a deal for some time but recently that deal fell through because the property does not have a well and depends upon raincatchement and the large volume insulated green tank for water supply. This matter is confusing to banks because they need home sales to be structured in a mindless repetitive manner so home values can be related to in a very certain and familiar way. The property will now be promoted as just land with 'structures' on it so the sale will not be tripped up by simple expectations for what a home is supposed to be from a banks limited point of view.
I am very proud of the design because of the open sunlit interior that uses gradients of light and an upstairs sun cupola, for lack of a better description of this main-room-connecting flowing form, that creates mystery and depth. Standing in the living room or kitchen and views from the bedroom doors, the upward views contain views that appear as infinite sky depth because the joining corners cannot be seen and the surfaces are cornerless and smooth. There are also upward views that appear as vast earthen cave scapes. The windows across the wings of the hawk form appear faceted and blend to the ceiling surfaces so the boundary between outside and inside is not easily defined.
The feel of this home will be open and lit with constantly changing natural light. The tall cupola functions as a sun driven convection motor to boost the natural airflow in all of the rooms. The sunlight passive solar effect is carefully balanced so it is not overdone to create uncomfortable heat. The lighting is primarily reflected and many soft gradients are created. Part of the intent of the design, besides creating a very nurturing and healing space, is to show that ferrocement need not be cave like, dark shelters and that the mystery depth spaces based in variations of loft like bubbles that are emerging as characteristic of the curvilinear architecture of ferrocement can really be more than effect and can be usable space too.
The laminated ferrocement foundation is fully insulated to help the home regulate comfortable temperatures throughout the year without expense.

The property, home, tank, garage, pad, nice road is priced lower than near-by 5 acre lots that have nothing and this land has the best views of the valley in Pinos Altos New Mexico - ten minutes from Silver City.
My current project is called "The 40 Mix Home” Even though it is a very beautiful flowing seashell looking home that blends in with lots of flowing planters and careful rain diversion forms, the name 40 Mix Home denotes the economy theme and shows that homeownership is possible with little investment which is central to the Parabolic Stress-Skin System. Doing more with less, building with a natural environment, cultivation architecture, defensible architecture, nurturing architecture, remote site building away from vehicle access are all themes with this new project and if feels like the first time I have been cut loose to really show where curvilinear architecture can take us in terms of design that is practical and sustainable first and then, because of open approach to practical utilitarian design, naturally very artistic in an almost opulent way.
