[Ferro List] To patent or not to patent

"To patent or not to patent", that is indeed one of my questions right now. Yesterday I had a long talk with a business owner for who I sometimes get manufacturing and assembly contracts, and over the time we have become friends. So I mentioned to him that I had an invention in mind, but didn't know how to proceed.
As I didn't want to disclose the invention as such, I was practicing some "code talking". And quite frankly, after some time I had had it! So we'll have a meeting where I'll just tell him what it is about, expose the whole invention to him, and seek advice.
I know that he has a good background that will (hopefully) help him telling me exactly what to do. And it's not that I don't appreciate your advice! In fact, all the pros and cons you mentioned, the head-scratching and wondering... all that will become part of our discussion. But as we all know, I didn't really disclose any details. He in turn will know them, as well as your input, so there is a good chance that something good might come out of this.
Let's hope the best!
Uwe
