Thanks, Doug and Paul, that's very much my thinking, only I didn't know how to translate the manufactures rating into a working rating. I'm hoping to be able to afford the 7.5 h.p. compressor, as that would allow the future purchase of air grinders, and sanders, but the reality might be the 5.0 h.p., as it would appear to work for at least the sprayer. I think the industry would do it itself a favor by cleaning up some of the confusion by a system of color coding tools with compressors. 
The electrician ended up wiring for the bigger sized compressor, with a 50 amp breaker. It will now be available for other future uses too. Thanks again for the input, chris
